Water Meter Customer Portal FAQs
QuestionHow do I create an account for the water meter portal?
- Visit watertown-ma.gov/meters
- Select the “Water Meter Customer Portal” button.
- Select “Need to set up an account” link.
- Enter your email address.
- Click on the invite link in your email.
- Enter your water account number.
- Enter your cell phone number for text alerts (optional)
- Enter a password. Your password needs to follow these rules:
- At least 12 characters.
- At least one uppercase character.
- At least on lowercase character.
- Must not contain regular words.
- Click Submit
QuestionHow do I set up alerts?
You will select the “Settings” tab where the first option will be “Usage Alerts” Here you can customize the alerts you receive for:
- Billing cycle usage
- When you exceed a certain cubic foot
- Daily usage alerts
- Multi day alerts
- Vacation alerts
You can also make updates on your alerts here. Be sure to click save when updating.
You will then want to go to the "Alert Recipients" option under Settings. Here you determine where the alerts are sent, and you can also add new recipients if needed.

You can see the following details on your Water Portal Dashboard:
Billing Cycle Usage
- The amount of water (in cubic feet) you’ve used during the current billing cycle.
Billing Cycle Data
- A summary of your water usage for the billing cycle (same information as Billing Cycle Usage).
Billing Cycle Threshold
- The usage threshold you set (in Alerts) and a comparison of your current usage against it.
Alerts
- Notifications you’ve manually configured to track usage and other important updates (details provided in later slides).

- General app notifications related to your account and usage

- Select “Usage Details.”
Here you can see your water usage in the following increments:
- 24 hours
- 7 days
- 30 days
- 12 months
