Completed Projects

Cottage Street Water Main Replacements

In 2025, the City's contractor, A.D. Paolini, LLC., replaced water mains throughout the Cottage Street neighborhood along Cottage Street, Sawin Street, Rifle Court, Lyons Street, Sexton Street, Hearn Street, Molloy Street, and Cottage Lane.

Belmont Street Reconstruction Project (Mt Auburn Street to #88 Belmont Street)

This is a joint project with the City of Cambridge, which has care and control of the roadway.  The City will be contributing to the project by reconstructing sidewalks on the Watertown side of the street. The work is part of the City of Cambridge Complete Streets initiative to design and operate streets that are safe for all users including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and public transit users.

Morse Street Reconstruction

The City reconstructed Morse Street using the Complete Streets approach. The work included granite curbing, grass planting strips, new shade trees, and tree pits for stormwater management.

Highland Avenue Reconstruction

The City reconstructed Highland Avenue from Lexington Street to the City line just before Longfellow Road. The work included new curbing, new sidewalks, roadway resurfacing and installation of traffic calming features, such as raised intersections.

2021 Sewer System Improvement Program

The City of Watertown is undertaking a sanitary sewer improvement project including the installation of approximately 32,000 feet of cured-in-place (CIP) sewer pipe. This is commonly known as sewer lining. This process allows the contractor to reconstruct certain sections of badly deteriorated sewer “in place” rather than the traditional disruptive method of excavating and replacing the existing pipes.

Upper Waverley Ave (Orchard Street to Belmont Street)

The City reconstructed Upper Waverley Ave., between Orchard Street and Belmont Street, in 2021.

Common Street Road Reconstruction

The project provided a “complete streets” approach to the Common Street corridor to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, improve traffic operations, and increase safety at the five-legged intersection of Common Street, Orchard Street, and Church Street.

2020 Sewer System Improvement Program

The City undertook a sanitary sewer improvement project including the installation of approximately 16,000 feet of cured-in-place (CIP) sewer pipe. This is commonly known as sewer lining. This process allows the contractor to reconstruct certain sections of badly deteriorated sewer “in place” rather than the traditional disruptive method of excavating and replacing the existing pipes.

2020 Water Main Replacement Program

The City replaced aged water mains on Oak Street, Nash Street, Essex Street, and Pine Street.

Bromfield Street Water Main Replacement

In 2021, DPW upgraded the water main on Bromfield Street.
