Open Space

Watertown has many parks and open spaces including the multi-use Arsenal Park, Filippello Park, 10 playgrounds, and the Whitney Hill Conservation Area.

The Department of Community Development and Planning (DCDP) is working closely with the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Recreation Department to redesign and construct several open spaces, such as Arsenal Park, Saltonstall Park, and Walker Pond.

DPW’s Parks Division is responsible for maintaining 13 parks (88 acres of parkland). The size of these parks range from one acre for instance at the Cunniff Elementary School to 14 acres at Filippello Park.

Along the Charles River, there is the Charles River Reservation with the 20-mile Dr. Paul Dudley White Charles River Bike Path that connects Watertown to Downtown Boston and Waltham. The Charles River Reservation is owned and managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
